John H. Wight died at his home three miles from Camden village on the road to Florence Hill, a few minutes past eight o’clock Tuesday morning, aged 44 years, 11 months and 7 days. Mr. Wight had not been well for nearly a year, having suffered from Bright’s disease, which was greatly aggravated by his work in riding over the mail route daily. About January 22d, 1902 he was obliged to give up the work, and for a time his life was in the balance. He however, gradually regained his strength, and again assumed his duties May 2d. He began as carrier on route No. 2 when the free delivery was inaugurated in this town nearly two years ago. He never fully recovered and the unusual rainy weather was not beneficial for his trouble. He was faithful and courteous as a public servant, and the patrons of his route speak only praise for him. Last Friday was his last trip, and he went to his home greatly fatigued and suffered with labored breathing which he attributed to asthma. He ate supper, and soon after was prostrated with a paralytic shock which rendered helpless the entire right side of his body. Dr. Borland was called as soon as possible, but when he arrived it was evident Mr. Wight could not recover. He was unconscious almost from the first, and at times passed through spasms of terrible suffering. He became conscious a few minutes before his death Tuesday morning an recognized his wife and brothers and sisters.

John H. Wight was born in Redfield, his parents being the late John and Julia A. Wight, and when 8 years of age he moved with them to the farm in in Camden where he had since lived and where he died. Nov. 25th, 1890, he was united in marriage to Mary Jeannette, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Walker, and their wedded lie has been full of peace and happiness. Mr. Wight was interested in public affairs, and an enthusiastic republican worker. He was also an active member Camden Grange Patrons of Husbandry, and for several years was a its Master and had served as secretary and held minor positions in its gift.

In 1876 he was baptized by Rev. E. Curtis and became a member of the Congregational church, but after his marriage usually attended service with his wife, who is a member of the M. E. church in this village. He was a staunch supporter of the truths of religion, morality and temperance, and was considered by all who knew him as a thoroughly good man in every respect. He will be greatly missed as a thoughtful and loving husband, an affectionate brother, and a true friend and helpful neighbor.

He is survived by his wife, two sisters, Misses Nellie A. and Carrie A. Wight, and two brothers, Charles M. Wight of Camden and Clarence D. Wight of Antwerp, Jefferson county.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. today from the late home, Rev. E. N. Manley to officiate. The members of the Grange will attend the funeral in a body, and the Grange choir of which Mr. Wight was a member will furnish music.
