Mr. Wight was born in Oppingham, Vt., and was the son of Abner Wight, and next to the youngest child of a family of ten children. His age was 79 years, 6 months and 20 days. In childhood with his parents he removed from the east to Fowler, Jefferson county, and about 46 years ago, settled in Redfleld, where he remained thirteen years. Thirty-two years ago, he became a resident of the town of Camden and was one of its well known, honest and industrious farmers. Seven years ago, he retired from active labor and came to this village, locating on Mexico street, where he passed his final days in happiness and quietness. In his early days he became a Christian, and a believer in the Baptist faith. But moving from his church home he never called for his letter, although always a regular attendant at some church. He was thoroughly in touch and feeling with all religious work, and will be missed from the meetings in which his voice mingled.
Mr. Wight had been thrice married, his last wife being Miss Julia A. Perry, to whom he was united 44 years ago. By each of his two first marriages a son was born, one being killed in the war, and the other, Clarence D. Wight, now lives in Waukesha, Wis. By his last marriage two sons and two daughters were born, Charles M., John H., Misses Nellie A., and Carrie A. Wight, who, together with their aged mother, have the sympathy of all in their hour of affliction. A sister, Miss A. Wight of Antwerp, Jefferson county, also survives.
The funeral will be held from his late residence on Mexico street at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon.
