J. C. Arnett Dies at Age 82
Pioneer will be buried, Friday at White House Cemetery; Locally Related
J. C. Arnett, 82, who for many years served as justice of the peace, died this morning at his home at Arnett after an illness since July when he was overcome with heat.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o' clock at White House, District 45, and burial will be in White House cemetery. The postoffice at Arnett was established during lifetime of George W. Arnett, father of Mr. Arnett on the farm owned by him at that time.

Besides his office as Justice, Mr. Arnett had been director of the school and a leader in church and community life in his vicinity.

Surviving are his wife: a son, Benjamin F. Arnett of Hutchinson, Kans., who has been here and is returning for the funeral; three sisters, Mrs. Addie Sharp of Detroit, Texas, Mrs. Emma Rondeau of Jasper, Texas and Mrs. Jennie Lewis of Tulsa. Mrs. J. B. McConnell of Fayetteville is a niece.

Joseph C. "Joe" Arnett married, Malissa Jane Guinn Bogan according to Sharon Rhoades who submitted J. C. Arnett's obituary. This would have been Joe's second marriage. Dennis and Linda Hinkle added that Malissa moved to California after Joe's death to be near her daughter's. Joseph C. Arnett was the son of George W. Arnett and Lourinda Rogers. George and Lourinda Rogers were neighbors in Tennesse of Rev. Hiram Douglas and his wife Caroline Warnock, dau of Abner, who lived at Ooltewah, Hamilton Co, TN. Rev. Hiram Douglas was a Cumberland Presbyterian Missionary, administering to the Indians from Monroe Co, TN to Rome, GA until the removal of the Indians to Indian Territories (Oklahoma). Then he began helping to establish new Cumberland Presbyterian churches in Tennessee and Georgia. He was gifted with an eloquent oratorial style and singing voice. Rev. Hiram Douglas and his wife Caroline (Warnock) Douglas had a son, William C. Douglas. William C. Douglas married Martha Arnett, Joseph C. Arnett's sister. William C. Douglas lived on the banks of Middle Fork White River in Washington Co, AR, and Joseph C. Arnett had his home directly above it that still remains. The Calvin Luttrell Cemetery is beside the lane leading to Joe's old home. A short distance away is Arnett, AR. William C. Douglas and his dau Jesse Douglas are also buried White House Cemetery. Martha (Arnett) Douglas is buried beside her daughter, Bessie (Douglas) McConnell, wife of J. Benjamin McConnell, in Fairview Memorial Gardens, Fayetteville, AR.- Mildred Clark, a Douglas descendant
