Obituary from The Greenville Journal, Thursday, Sept. 25, 1902: "John Holzapfel, the aged drayman, died at his home in this city last Saturday evening. Mr. Holzapfel's health had been failing for the past couple of years. He was a pioneer of the county, having located in this city some fiftyfive years ago and followed draying until age and disease compelled him to retire. He was aged nearly 82 years. A wife, one daughter and four sons survive him. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Evangelical chuch on East Fourth street."
