Lydia F. Hemrich, 94, passed away Monday, August 17, 2020 at Newton Care Center.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, August 21, 2020 at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Newton. Arrangements are in the care of Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham.

Lydia was born April 2, 1926 in rural Newton, the daughter of Edwin R. and Minnie (Phillips) Babbs. She married Louis M. Hemrich on November 9, 1946 and he preceded her in death in 1990. Lydia was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Newton and the Council of Catholic Women. She retired from K-Mart in Effingham after many years.

Lydia is survived by her daughters, Carol Sheehan of Teutopolis, Theresa (Lee) Chase of Lowell, Oregon and Brigid (Daniel) McDonald of Effingham; sons, Phillip L. of Altamont and Daniel (Linda) of Everett, Washington; sister, Marie Ward of Newton; 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Lydia was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Linda (Matthew) Gordon; son-in-law, John Sheehan; two great-grandsons; brothers, John (Cleo) Babbs, James (Betty) Babbs, Walter (Hallie) Babbs and Earl (Mildred) Babbs; sisters, Alice (Herb) Smith, Charlene ("Blackie") Frazee and brother-in-law, Don Ward.
