Aaron Linville was born in Lafayette County, Missouri in 1825 to parents Thomas and Charity Watkins Linville. His parents moved their family to Jackson County, Missouri about 1830. While living there, his father, Thomas, joined the local militia company, and while leading his company in battle with the Mormons, was shot and killed. In 1841, the widow moved her children to Nodaway County.

Aaron met his future wife, Martha, while living in Barnard, MO. Her father was Robert Patton. Aaron and Martha were playmates in childhood and their love for one another led to their marriage in 1847 while living in Nodaway county, MO. To this union were born six children: William R. Linville, Lucinda Ann (James Marion) Bowlin; Mary Jane (Thomas) Slaughter; Sarah Elizabeth (Edwin) Hornbuckle, and John Henry Linville.

About 1850 Aaron Linville moved his family to a farm a small distance south of Graham, MO, but 7-8 years later moved to where now lives the little town of Skidmore, MO. In August, 1861, Aaron enlisted in the cause of the South and joined Captain Lewis Burris' company. Mr. Linville was stricken with camp fever and died while camping at Sarcoxie, Missouri. He was buried near there.

Mr. Linville was a kind man, always ready to do a kind act when the opportunity presented. He was one of the first members of the Masonic Lodge at Maryville, MO, having previously belonging to the lodge at Graham, MO. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. After the the death of her husband, Mrs. Linville and her family moved to Buchanan county, having lost the home farm n Nodaway County, but three years later returned to Nodaway county and located on a farm near Skidmore.

Please Note: In searching for Mr. Linville's burial site in the Linville family history, I have not been able to determine the place of his burial. My sources for his history are from the Linville family genealogy, Skidmore, MO Depot Museum, from Frieda Barrett Linville and the Past and Present, Nodaway County, MO, 1910.
