Benjamin Flint was the eldest child of Benjamin Flint Sr. and his first wife Mary Swain. He grew up on the family farm, first in Massachusetts, then in Cheshire Co., NH. He married Harriet Rixford in Winchester, Cheshire Co., on January 1, 1811 and settled on a farm in Swanzey, Cheshire Co. During the War of 1812, Benjamin served briefly (September 9-24, 1814) as a private in Cape. Nehemiah Perkins' Company, Vermont Militia.
