From The Skidmore News-August 1998:

"Mr. Linville was born on a farm in Skidmore, Missouri in 1909. He went to Missouri University and graduated from Chicago University with a PHD. He taught Economics for six years at Dartmouth College. He was always a teacher. He later worked 14 years for the State Dept. in Washington D.C., and then joined the foreign service.

He was one of the few non-military people who got accepted by the National War College where he took classes. After World War II, he made decisions as to what foreign countries were in most need of food supplies, also he visited these war torn countries.

Francis had a part in developing the charter for the U.N. as the Inter National Secretariat for the economic and social council. He served 14 years as Economic Counselor at our Embassies in Peru, Guatemala and Canada.

He devoted himself to the service of the American people for the 28 years. He was a man of great knowledge; an expert in the field of International Financial and Monetary Affairs. In retirement he was active with the World Affairs group.

He was a father to be proud of. He had time for his family. He was devoted to his wife of 66 years who died the years before at the age of 88 years.

He died June 24, 1998 from a heart attack at the age of 89 years, leaving his two daughters, Evelyn Linville Gingrich and Phyllis Linville.

He had inequity that was unsurpassed, a model for everyone who knew him. He will be sorely missed."
