Andrew Creighton was the eldest son and eldest child of Justice Samuel Creighton (1811-1894) and his wife Arabella (Gilleland) Creighton (1815-1897). Andrew was named after his maternal grandfather Andrew Gilleland (1780-1848). Andrew was born in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania before his family moved west to Hancock County, Ohio in 1841.

Andrew died of diphtheria just a year after the death of his younger sister Isabella. His grandfather and namesake Andrew Gilleland died four months later after young Andrew's death. Andrew's father Samuel Creighton was elected to his first term as a Justice for Hancock County, Ohio in the same year Andrew died.

After more than 100 years Andrew's tombstone became broken-off. The tombstone lay flat on the ground for a number of years until action was taken in more recent years to remount it on concrete. Unfortunately the bottom portion of the tombstone is now missing.
