Paul was born in Salt Lake City, Utah and raised in Bountiful, Utah. Paul was the son of Henry Easton Peterson and Alice Margene Danielsen.

He graduated from Bountiful High School in 1959 and later served an LDS mission to the New Zealand South Mission in 1961-1963 where he cultivated a particular fondness for Polynesian people. He graduated from BYU in 1966 and subsequently earned graduate degrees from that institution.

He married Roberta "Bobbie" Rae ZoBell from Raymond, Alberta, Canada in August 1966 in the Salt Lake Temple. Paul spent his entire working life as a teacher in the LDS Church Educational System and for the last twenty-two years, taught in Religious Education at BYU.

Throughout his life, he was a dutiful member of the LDS Church and a believer in the redemptive work of the Savior. His hobbies included athletics, reading, gardening, and spending time with his family. He enjoyed traveling and learning about and associating with people of other cultures.

His favorite city in the world was Jerusalem. Together with his family, Paul served in the BYU Jerusalem Center as a teacher and as an administrator. "If you like history and you like religion," he observed, "how can you help but love Jerusalem. It is inexhaustible."

Paul wishes to thank the many thousands of people he encountered in his life who taught him or befriended him, the majority of whom touched or enriched his life. Paul will be greatly missed as husband, father, brother, and friend. All who knew him, loved him, because he loved them first.

Paul passed away of leukemia at his home in Lehi on Monday, September 3, 2007 at the age of sixty-five.

Funeral Services were held on Saturday, September 8, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the Lehi Twenty-Third Ward Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 650 East 3200 North in Lehi. Calling hours were held on Friday, September 7, 2007 at the Church from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. at the Church prior to the services.
