RAY MESSLER Ray Messler, 72, of Las Vegas, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2007. Ray was born Feb. 18, 1935 in Blackfoot, Idaho. He met Marlene Chaffee, his wife of 48 years, in Glasgow, Mont., while serving in the U.S. Air Force. Ray and Marlene moved their family to Las Vegas in 1960. Later moving to Everett, Wash., Ray worked as a structural test mechanic for Boeing on the new 747. He moved back to Las Vegas to do one of his favorite things, work with fire trucks. He retired as a fire equipment mechanic for the City of Las Vegas Fire Department. Along with his wife Marlene, Ray is survived by daughters; Susan of Las Vegas, Karen of Red Bluff, Calif., Laura Schreiber, Sandra and husband, Victor Moore of Las Vegas. Ray was also the proud grandfather of Kathy and Danielle Schreiber and Marcus and Alyssa Williams all of Las Vegas. In addition, Ray is survived by his sister, Jane Poitra of Boise, Idaho; and brother, Gary and wife Carma of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and many loved nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, at Affordable Cremation and Burial, 2457 N. Decatur. Interment will be at SNVMC in Boulder City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Las Vegas Firefighters Benefit Association.
