5388 Private A Kershaw, 1st Battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps. The 1st Battalion was at Glencoe when the war broke out, and fought at the battle of Glencoe or Talana Hill on 20th October 1899 and at Lombard's Kop on 30 Oct 1899. They were in Ladysmith during the seige and Pte Kershaw was wounded on 27 Feb 1900. Later in the war he was at Krankuil, about 30km south of Hopetown, Cape Colony (now Northern Cape) when he was accidentally shot and killed. He was buried in the military cemetery, Orange River Station. His remains were later reinterred in West End Cemetery, Kimberley.
