Funeral services for R. B. Carpenter, 77, of McCarley, were held at the chapel of Oliver Funeral Home, 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 1, 1990. The Rev. Norris Corley officiated, with burial in the Winona Gardens of Memory.
Mr. Carpenter, the widower of Robbie Mae Martin Carpenter, died of heart failure July 29, at Golden Age Nursing Home in Greenwood. The retired heavy equipment operator and native of Alcorn County had been ill for some time. Mr. Carpenter was a member of McCarley Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Gatlin of Greenwood and Barbara C. Doughtie of Melbourne, Florida; his stepmother, Ruby Carpenter of Corinth; four sisters, Velma Newbern, Jessie Bain, Claby Crowder, and Genova McDuffy, all of Corinth; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Larry Martin, Glenn Barry, Milton Martin, Elbert Ware, Charles Martin and Kenneth DeLoach.
Oliver Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
