Bård Halvorson Nedrelo was born in 1804 in Lærdal, Norway, the son of Hallvard Baardson and Mari Einarsdtr Nesset. He married Synneva Hallvardsdtr Husum 21 Nov. 1824. They were the parents of 6 children. He and his wife and four sons left Norway and arrived in New York City 19 July 1853 on the ship, "Oalf Kyrre". They traveled on to Wisconsin to join daughters Mari & Silla who had arrived three years earlier. Two of their children, Halver and Mari, stayed there but the rest of the family moved on to Winneshiek Co., Iowa. Baard died 1882 and his wife Synneva 1889; both are buried in Glenwood Lutheran Cemetery.


Bård Hallvardson Nedrelo was the local chairman of the Thranerøsia in the Borgund kommune. The Thrane movement was a labor reform movement organized by Markus Thrane. The movement wanted unions and labor reforms that the government didn't want. The movement was considered illegal. Movement members and leaders were resisted and punished by the government, including Bård. Bård had a strong belief in the ideals of the Thrane movement, the government didn't like him and harassed him, he got discouraged, and he sold his farm and emigrated to America in 1853.
