Gatsy Maude Richardson was born in Perry County, Alabama about 1823 to Samuel Richardson and Mariah Mary Conn.

Gatsy Maude Richardson and Thomas Council Nixon married in Perry County, Alabama December 10, 1847. About 1853, they joined a wagon train heading for Texas. They had two small sons at the time they left Alabama, Samuel Thomas about three years old and Aaron Bruce about a year and a half. During the journey, young Aaron ate poke berries and died. Thomas pulled boards from the wagon and made a coffin for his small son and buried him along the trail.

They settled in Old Waverly, Walker County, Texas. After the community had established the Old Waverly Cemetery, Thomas went back to where he had buried his son and brought him to Waverly and buried him in the new cemetery.

I know her headstone says she died in 1898, but she was living with her son James Robert in the 1900 census. I believe that she really died about 1903.
