Phyllis Arlene Shaw passed away Friday, July 3, 2020 at the age of 86. She was born January 30, 1934 in Wellington, KS.

Phyllis moved to Artesia in 1974. She worked as a librarian for many years at the Artesia Public Library until her retirement.

She gave her heart to the Lord and was baptized May 16, 1943 and from that point on she was devoted to loving God and loving people.

She taught children's Sunday school at Trinity Temple in Artesia, First Assembly of God in Carlsbad, and Assembly of God Crossroads in Roswell. She enjoyed reading to the elderly at the nursing home and delivering books to the homebound. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, long walks, and traveling across the country.

She was preceded in death by her parents Harvey and Bessie Brawdy, her brother Donald Brawdy, and her lifelong friend Kermit Burroughs.

She is survived by her children Karen Davis of Roswell, NM, Kay Jones of Oklahoma City, OK, Stephanie Stewart of Clovis, NM, Steven Shaw of Roswell, NM; grandchildren Heather Lewis of Carlsbad, NM, Kimberly Green of Artesia, NM, Shane Lewis of Lawton, OK, Melissa Lewis of Odessa, TX, Emily Pennington of Carlsbad, NM, Mark Jones of Oklahoma City, OK, Chris Jones of Oklahoma City, Ok; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Viewing will take place at Ballard Funeral Home in Roswell from 1-4 pm on Friday, July 10, 2020. She will be laid to rest in Atlanta, KS.

In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to the Artesia Public Library for large print books.
