Rev. Homer Arthur Bowman, age 90, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. He was born in Patrick County on April 10, 1930 to the late Dewey Lee and Martha Ann Hall Bowman.

Rev. Bowman was an ordained Southern Baptist Minister for approximately 37 years before retiring. He served as a minister of Doe Run Baptist Church, Reed Island Springs Baptist Church, Crooked Oak Baptist Church, Little River Baptist Church as well as Forest Lawn Baptist Church. Most recently he was a member of Forsyth Park Baptist Church in Winston-Salem.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will surely be missed by all who knew him. Left to cherish his memories are his wife whom he married June 16, 1951, Mary “Louise” Boyd Bowman; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Michael Sonbert; grandchildren, Nicole Michelle Sonbert, Tracy Rene Snow and husband Jason; great-grandchildren, Haley Grace Snow and Noah Michael Snow; sisters and a brother –in-law, Margaret Dowdy, Frances and Weldon Tobler. In addition to his parents Mr. Bowman was preceded in death by sisters, Gladys Boyd, Marie Bowman, Opal Bateman and Rose Annie Haymore; brother, Rev. John Bowman.

Respecting the current limitations of numbers for public gatherings at this time (COVID-19), a graveside service will be held on Friday, July 10, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Doe Run Baptist Church Cemetery in Ararat, VA. with services conducted by Rev. Tom Southern and Rev. Jake Smejkal. For those wishing to pay their respects you may do so on Thursday July 9, 2020 between the hours of 11:00 AM–5:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. In Lieu of Flowers donations may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103 or Doe Run Baptist Church Cemetery, 903 Doe Run Rd, Ararat, VA 24053.
