Ms. Lillie Marie Bowman, 87 of Mt. Airy passed away Friday, September 16, 2011 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Ms. Bowman was born on November 18, 1923 in Patrick County, VA to the late Dewey L. and Martha Ann Hall Bowman. She was a homemaker and a member of Doe Run Baptist Church. Ms. Bowman is survived by three daughters Joyce Rippey of Roanoke, VA, Shirley and Harold Fain of Stuart, VA and Ann and Phil White of New York; four sons, Jack and Mary Bowman of New Jersey, Melvin and Lynn Bowman of Pennsylvania, Clayton and Annette Bowman of Toast, NC and Jay Bowman of Mt. Airy; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; five sisters, Gladys Boyd of Mt. Airy, Opal Bateman of Ararat, VA, Rose Annie Haymore of Ararat, VA, Margaret Dowdy of Mt. Airy and Frances Tobler of Mt. Airy; one brother, Rev. Homer Bowman. In addition to her parents, Ms. Bowman was preceded in death by a brother, Rev. John Bowman. A graveside service will be conducted on Sunday, September 18, 2011 at 4:00 PM at Doe Run Baptist Church by Rev. Homer Bowman. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening, September 17, 2011 from 6:00 until 7:00 pm at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. The family would like to express their appreciation to all the staff at Twelve Oaks, especially, Nelda France for the wonderful care that was given to Ms. Bowman during her stay.
