Harry Willard McWhirt of RFD 6, Falmouth, died Monday at Mary Washington Hospital. He was 86.

A native of Spotsylvania, Mr. McWhirt was a well-known farmer in Stafford County. In addition to working his own farm at Berea, he, and his sons did "custom work" such as thrashing and binding wheat, picking corn for many large farms in the area.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Belle McWhirt; two daughters, Mrs. Hazel Madsen of Lexington Park, Md., and Mrs. Edna Covey of Highland Springs; three sons, Frank McWhirt of Falls Church; Everett McWhirt of Falmouth and Sidney McWhirt of Spotsylvania; and 10 grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Berea Baptist Church. The Rev. Hunter H. Newman will officiate and interment will follow in the church cemetery. His body will lie at the church from 1 p.m.

The pallbearers will be Milton J. Sale, Robert M. Burgess, Ralph F. Burgess, Samuel F. Simpson, Maynard E. F. Lewis and Francis W. Orrock.

Members of the Men's Senior Bible Class of the Berea Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Wheeler & Thompson Funeral Home.
