Born on Grantwood farm,her education was received in a log school at Salem Church.Marshall Decker was her teacher and later she attended a private school.Her home being situated near several battlefields of the war and her father and brother in the service she experienced the hardships and anxieties incident of that conflict.
At an early age she united with the Piney Branch Baptist Church,later transferring her membership to Salem.
In February 1870,she married Alonzo R. Pemberton,CSA,who died a year later,leaving an infant son,Alonzo,Jr.In 1899,he married Bessie E.Morrison.
In December 1876 she married Willard A.McWhirt and had six children from this union.The children are,John W.,Rose E.,who married Edmond M.Orrock (Eddie)in 1903 and died in January 1919,Frances Agnes(Fannie)who married George W.McConnell in 1907 and moved to Angola,Ind,Louise K.married Charles A.Burgess,of Stafford in 1905,Harry W. and Allen Marshall McWhirt married Sarah(Sadie)Olive Beach in 1911.She was the sister of Mrs.(Jennie)Virginia E.Pollard of Lovell,Olkahoma.
