The Semi-Weekly New Era (Lancaster, PA), 4 Aug 1888.

"A fatal accident happened on the Pennsylvania railroad at Coatesville, on Friday afternoon, about 4:30 o'clock, which resulted in the death, in a horrible manner, of Frederick Wendler, a brakeman on crew No. 2, drawn by enginer No. 62. A trip had been made by the train to Philadelphia, and the crew were on the return trip....(while uncoupling he fell to the tracks and was fatally injured)...The deceased was a native of Lancaster, his mother residing at 306 North Mulberry street. He had been a resident of Columbia for the past eight years, and was well known throughout the town. He was in the 33rd year of his age at the time of his death and has been an employee of the Pennsylvania railroad for the past ten years. A wife and four children survive to mourn his sudden death."

His father was the late John Wendler, piano mover. His mother, Louisa Wendler, lives on North Mulberry street.
