Died the next year of pneumonia (Spanish Flu) while enlisted in the army during WWI (Co. L., 5th LA Inf.). He was stationed at Camp Beauregard where an epidemic was raging.

Uncle Tom Allein [sic], an old Confederate war horse from Ward 5, was here last Saturday and expressed the desire to enter the army to assist his two sons [This would be Allie and Dewitt] and the other LaSalle boys in licking the Huns.
