The 7 August 1891 issue of the Monmouth "Advance", page 1, stated the bodies of Mrs. Mark "Ford" and an unnamed 8 year-old daughter who died in Minneapolis the prior week were interred in Monmouth cemetery on Saturday, with "Mrs. F" a daughter of the late Champion Miller. Monmouth Cemetery Sexton's records show they were buried on 31 July 1891 in 31 10 as "Mary Fort" and "Mrs. M. Fort". However, Minnesota death records show that Melinda Fort age 37 died 29 July 1891 in St. Paul, not Minneapolis, and Matilda/Mathilda Fort age 6 died 30 July 1891, also in St. Paul. The Saint Paul, MN "Globe" on Friday 31 July and 2 Aug 1891 mentioned but a single death on Thursday 30 July 1891, that of "Mark Ford" age 34 of Twelfth and Cedar streets. Had Matilda actually been 8 years of age, or born about 1883, she would have been shown with her parents in the 1885 Iowa Census of Cedar Rapids. It appears she was born shortly after that record was taken.
