WISHEK -- Emily Kocher, 85, Wishek, died Dec. 25, 1995, in the Wishek nursing home. She was born Dec. 18, 1910 in rural Emmons County near Linton, to Jacob and Barbara (Sayler) Forderer. Emily grew up on the family farm 13 miles east of Linton and received her elementary education in rural Emmons County schools. She continued to live with her family until her marriage to Gottlieb Schmierer, April 13, 1935 at the family farm near Linton. They farmed southwest of Wishek until 1948 when they moved to Wishek. Mr. Schmierer preceded her in death on Feb. 19, 1967. She later married Walter Kocher, Aug. 11, 1968. They lived and farmed six miles north of Wishek until 1984 when they moved to Wishek, where she has lived since. Walter preceded her in death on Dec. 8, 1989. She worked for many years as a nurses aid at the Wishek Nursing Home.

She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Irene and Earl Wentz, Bismarck, and Violet and Rod Melin, Elbow Lake, Minn.; one son, Milton Schmierer, Tucson, Ariz.; two stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law, Jim and Phyllis Kocher, Vacaville, Calif., and Bill and Marlys Kocher, Gillette, Wyo.; one stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Ramona and David Lane, Grand Forks; four sisters, Katie Wagner, Pauline Wagner, Lydia Schatz, all of Linton, and Maggie and Ed Steinert, Bismarck; one brother and sister-in-law, Adolph and Martha Forderer, Wishek; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; four brothers; two sisters; one great-grandchild; and one step-grandchild.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Wishek, with the Rev. Richard Speidel officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Lila Raile will serve as organist, with special music by Jonna Hochhalter. (Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Wishek)
