IN MEMORY OF Eliza J. Brown, aka Mrs. Eliza J. Smith, born ~ 1822 in NC.
Source: 1850 Census, Lafayette County, MS, Line 30, Dwelling 814.
Eliza J. Brown married on 21 Jan 1841 in Cherokee County, GA to Robert C. Smith, born ~ 1811 in SC. Their grave markers have not been found yet, and death dates are unknown to me. Her parents and siblings attended the Old Sugar Valley United Methodist Church, Gordon County, GA. I have a copy of a family letters written around 1860s including one written and signed by their daughter Sarah J. Smith to her aunt Mary Elizabeth Brown Moore in Fayette County, AL. Source: Letters were provided to me around 1998 by Mary's descendant Brenda Brophy of Hammond, LA.

From her birth around 1822, Eliza was raised in NC until after her brother James was born in 1834. By 1837, parents Jesse and Mary Brown moved to Woodstock voting district, GA. They lived near the city of Hickory Flat, GA per their grandson Joseph Cleveland Brown (my grandpa). Nearby Lickskillet was where Eliza's sister Nancy's husband William Black's in-law David Rush and relatives lived.
Eliza Brown was a cousin of Governor Joseph Emerson Brown, whose father and relatives lived near Canton, GA. Eliza's mother Mary Brown's maiden name was said to be Powell per relatives, who descend from Mary. Eliza's maternal-grandmother was definately a Miss. Harper, whose father owned land near Harper's Ferry, Virginia (West Virginia), which was confirmed by 3 descendants from 3 differentlines.
