Pg 22 Alfred VanDeren McMurtry (1890-1957)
Alfred V. McMurtry was born in Harrison County August 25, 1890. He was educated at the old Two Lick Common School and Smith's Classical School in Cynthiana. He attended the University of Kentucky for one year and returned to Harrison Countuy where he was engaged in general farming the remainder of his life. On April 27, 1938, he was married to Myrtle Louise McKenney, daughter of William T. and Harriett May (Clifford) McKenney of Harrison County. Alfred McMurtry was a member of Union Baptist Church were he served as Clerk for some 40 years. He was also active in the affairs of the Union Baptist Association having served as Clerk and Moderator for several years. He died Jine 10, 1957 and is buried in Battle Grove Cemetery.
No children were born of this marriage; however, Alfred and Myrtle Louise McMurtry reared a foster daughter, Mary Lou Tucker. She was born in Harrison County on May 20, 1938 the daughter of Woodrow and Lou Katherine (Barnes) Tucker.
