Daughter of Josephus VanDeren (s of James VanDeren & Sarah Journey of Harrison Co. Ky) & Mary Elizabeth Allnutt.

Married Sept 29, 1869 William McMurtry, had children: Josephus McMurtry, James McMurtry, Effie Jane (Frank) McKee, Wm Lewis McMurtry, Robert Roscoe McMurtry, David Caldwell McMurtry, and Alfred VanDeren McMurtry.

"Granny Mac," as she was affectionately called, loved to entertain and did so quite graciously and sometimes lavishly. She was an active member of the old Harrison County Country Club, a woman's club of yester year.

"Sallie was a member of the Union Baptist Church and was one of Harrison county's most beloved women, she was of bright disposition, had a keen intellect and was a favorite wherever she went."
