Sarah, wife of Stephen Bancroft, died Jan 21, 1837, aged 82 yrs at the home of her son, Thomas Bancroft in Walworth, New York. Surname also spelled Bancraft variously. Sarah was born probably late 1754 or early January 1755, most likely in Connecticut. She moved to Granville, Hampshire County, Massachusetts Bay Province about 1759- 1760 when and where her father, Joel Strong, purchased land. She married Stephen Bancroft about 1773 in Massachusetts Bay Province, and lived there throughout the Revolutionary War era. She migrated to Manlius, NY about Sept 1795, being driven in an oxcart by her son, Thomas. Thomas Bancroft (1778-1857) lived and died in Wayne County, NY, where his descendants are buried in many Wayne County cemeteries, and over the county line into W. Webster. Contributed by Phyllis C.
