Randy Arington
September 21, 1951 - June 09, 2020

Randall Vernon “Randy” Arington of Dogwood, Mo., died on his farm on June 9, 2020, at the age of 68. He is survived by his wife, Claudia, and his children: Leslie (Arington) and John Allgier of Dogwood, John and Lauren Arington of Dogwood, Paul Moore of Charleston, Mo., Stephanie (Moore) and Chris Wirken of Prairie Village, Kan., and his grandchildren: Laurann Allgier, Layne Allgier, Camrynn Arington, Cadence Arington (all residents of Dogwood), Harrison Moore of Charleston, and Nicholas Wirken of Prairie Village. Randy is also survived by his mother, Marjorie Arington of Dogwood and his sisters Sandy (Arington) and Stuart Bain of Dogwood and Carol (Arington) and Jerry Morris of East Prairie, Mo. Randy is mourned by a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Glenda (Stockman) Arington and his father Bill Arington.

Randy was born in 1951 in Sikeston, Mo. He grew up in the Dogwood community, surrounded by a large, loving, extended family. Randy loved riding horses as a boy. In the summer, he chopped beans and picked watermelons for his grandfather.

He graduated from East Prairie High School in 1969, and attended college at Mississippi State and Murray State. He served in the National Guard. He then joined his father in operating the family farm, becoming a fifth-generation farmer. He did this for nearly five decades.

Randy and Glenda Stockman were married in 1973. They had many happy years together in Dogwood. Theirs was a lively home with lots of laughter. Glenda passed away after an extended illness in 1988.

In 1991, Randy married Claudia (McConachie) Moore of Charleston. Randy and Claudia built a happy life in Dogwood centered around the farm, their home, their children and, especially, their grandchildren. Claudia said they enjoyed riding around the farm to check the crops, and that he loved her cooking -- much more than her throw pillows.

Randy was an avid fisherman and hunter of doves, pheasants, quail and “snipes.” He is survived by two devoted Brittany Spaniels, Gus and Mollie. His family called him the “unofficial Mayor of Dogwood.” He patiently took visitors to farm country on tractor rides and calmly solved whatever problem arrived on his doorstep. He was widely respected for his strong character, common sense and kindness -- treating everyone he met with the same gentle temperament. It seemed like Randy could solve any problem with his quick wit and a piece of spearmint gum. He was dedicated to his community, serving on the Dogwood Cemetery Board, the Mississippi County Port Authority, the Mississippi County Ambulance Board, the Mississippi County Soil and Water Board, and the Mississippi County Farm Service Agency County Committee.

A visitation is scheduled for Friday, June 12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Dogwood United Methodist Church, with a family graveside service to immediately follow at Dogwood Cemetery. Jerry Morris, Stuart Bain, Scott Lindgren, Mark Dugan, Dr. Jim Heath, and Reginald Young will serve as pallbearers.

McMikle Funeral Home of Charleston is in charge of arrangements.
