A native of York County, SC; daughter of the late Jacob Ed Barnette (1854–1916) and Mary Jane Isabella Patrick Barnette (1862–1907); wife of the late Dr. Harry Douglas "H.D." Dodd (1881–1965).
A member of the Inman First Baptist Church and was a teacher at Inman Elementary School for a number of years; she and he late husband educated nine Baptist ministers.
Survivors include nephews, W.A. Barnette and P. Hendeson Barnette; and three nieces, Martha Spencer, Bobbie Spencer, and Edith Spencer.
Also predeceased by her siblings, William Augustus Barnette (1886–1962), Martha Lucinda Barnette Spencer (1888–1984), Elizabeth Barnette Dallas (1892–1967), and Jacob E. Barnett (1894–1895).
Graveside services were held at 3:00 pm, Tuesday, September 25, 1990, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens by Dr. Donald Bishop and Rev. James R. Bruce.
