James Franklin Peeler served two different enlistments in the Civil War. He was with Company B 4th Miss.Infantry and served as a Second Lieutenant. He was captured at Fort Donelson, exchanged and returned home ill. After recovering, he enlisted again and served as a Captain. After the war, he operated a waterpowered grain and grist mill in the Oak Ridge community known as Burk's Box. The name was changed to Peeler's Mill about 1899 and was still known as that as of 1984.
