Obituary from The Post Register (Idaho Falls, ID) - 17 September 2008:
William Blaine Foster, 82, of Meridian, formerly of St. Anthony, passed away Sept. 13, 2008, at St. Luke's Hospital.
He was born Oct. 11, 1925, to William Nephi Foster and Marion Josephine Wardell in St. Anthony, the seventh of eight children.
Despite the depression, Blaine enjoyed his childhood years. Food and money were in short supply, but Blaine remembers those times fondly. His mother and father separated shortly after he was in the first grade. He continued to live in the St. Anthony area with his father and siblings -- especially his oldest sister, Erma, whom he regarded as his second mother. In the spring of 1944, he joined the Navy, where he served the next couple of years in various assignments throughout the South Pacific. Following a brief courtship, he married his childhood sweetheart, Votis Whitaker, on Nov. 1, 1946. They had four children, Lyndon Bryce, Norma Christine, Elwood Blaine and Tracey Rue. Blaine joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Blaine served in many positions, including as High Priest secretary and stake missionary in West Yellowstone, Mont. He enjoyed singing with the ward choir as well as being a home teacher to many families in the St. Anthony area.
Blaine worked at the St. Anthony Laundry, BM Tibbits & Sons, J.C. Penney and the United States post office. For 54 years of their marriage, Votis and Blaine called St. Anthony home. They enjoyed genealogy work, volunteering in the community and supporting their family whenever and wherever needed. After retiring from the post office, they moved to Meridian.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Votis, and his infant son, Elwood Blaine. He is survived by his children, Bryce (Renee) of Midvale, Utah, Norma of Texarkana, Ark., and Tracey (Leslie) of Meridian; and his sister, Erma Gardner of Meridian. He had 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, in the St. Anthony 3rd and 4th Ward chapel. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Bert Flamm Mortuary, 581 E. First North in St. Anthony, and from noon to 12:45 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
