Emil, born in Marinwerder, West Prussia, came to the U.S. October 27, 1879, settling in Cleveland where he worked as a stationary boiler engineer. He married Wilhelmina Osterland November 10, 1881 and had 6 children, Karl 1882, Emilie 1884, Minnie 1886, Louise 1889, Elsie 1891 and Fredrich 1893. Wilhelmina died from tuberculosis in 1894 and Emil remarried to Augusta Hapke. They had six more children with 3 surviving, Emma 1895, Albert 1900 and Margaret 1903.
