As per NEHGR, July, 1854, p. 285: "Shadrach Hathaway --- was the first college educated man at Freetown who was raised or rather born and bred there."
ccording to the book, HATHAWAYS of America, by Elizabeth Starr Versailles 1970 edition, his parents were Shadrach Hathaway b. Taunton c 1688; d. Suffield, Conn. 25 Mar. 1771 and Deborah Kent b. 22 Aug. 1693. Ebenezer Hathaway and his wife Hannah Shaw were Shadrach’s Uncle and Aunt respectively. The farm where Shadrach Jr. was buried was, at the time , the farm of his Uncle, Ebenezer Hathaway. He was a brother of Simeon Hatheway, b. 25 Jun 1719.
