La Valle's Oldest Native Will Be 75 Sunday.

William Sloniker, oldest native born La Valle resident, will celebrate his 75th birthday on Sunday at his home which is just 29 feet from the site where he was born.

He has spent all his life on La Valle main street, seeing it change from a cranberry marsh to a paved well lighted street.

He was a barber for 36 years, deputy sheriff for 17 years, and is now starting his 16th year as village marshal.

As a baby he rode on the first engine to enter Wonewoc when the Northwestern road went through this territory. His greatest thrill, he said, came when he and a group of friends stopped President McKinley's special train by waving an American flag across the tracks. McKinley made an impromptu speech to the group.
