Mr. Pete Gillespie, 82, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004 at the Navarro Regional Hospital in Corsicana. He was born Sept. 22, 1921 in Avalon, the son of Peter and Johnnie Cox Gillespie. He was reared in Avalon where he graduated high school in 1939. On Jan. 21, 1944 he was married to Mary Lou Cunningham of Bardwell. After their marriage they lived in Avalon where he engaged in farming until his retirement in 1971. He was a member of the Bardwell Church of Christ and the past fire chief of the Avalon Volunteer Fire Dept. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou, of Avalon; 3 daughters, Mary Grace and her husband, Bob Bates of Mancos, CO, Marcia Gillespie and Carol Gillespie both of Addison; 2 sisters, Nettie Helms of Italy and Clemmie Flynt of Ennis; one granddaughter, Paige and Bill Frome of Richardson; and 4 great grand-children, Caleb, Hannah, Rebecca and Noah. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Franklin, Soleman, Joe and Wesley and a sister, Jettie Gilmore.
