A native of Allendale, SC; daughter of the late Robinson Plato Searson (1842–1916) and Juliana Bonita Arnold Searson (1848–1936); wife of John Buford "J.B." Atkinson (1872–1942); she moved to Spartanburg in 1904 as a new bridge.
A member of the Spartanburg bar and former speaker of the house of representatives. For the past 16 years, she had taught at Freemont School, was a member of the First Baptist Church, Spartanburg.
Survivors also include her daughters, Bonita Atkinson Padgette (1905-1986), Lila Atkinson Grier (1907-1998), and Lucia Atkinson Blackwood (1910-1999); brothers, Louis Arthur Searson (1879–1970), Robinson Plato Searson (1881–1943), and William Arnold Searson (1885–1966); and six grandchildren.
Also predeceased by a brother, James Eppinger Searson (1877–1919).
Funeral services were held at 4:00 pm, Monday, March 2, 1942, at J.F. Floyd Mortuary, officiated by Dr. E. Gibson Davis, pastor of the First Baptist Church; interment in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Members of the Spartanburg Bar Associated were requested to meet at the courthouse and attend the rites in a body as honorary pallbearers.
