John Alexander Angus


ROOSEVELT -- John Aledxander Angus, 55, Ioka, died Wednesday at 3 p.m. after a lingering illness.

He was born September 14, 1862 in Spanish Fork, a son of John Clark and Betsy Hislop Archibald Angus.

On Oct. 19, 1882 he married Mary Jane Gribble in the Salt Lake LDS Endowment House. They moved to Ashley Valley in 1886, where she died in 1905. He married Bertha B. Dennis Oct. 6, 1906 in Vernal. This marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

They moved to Roosevelt in 1907 where they settled on a homestead.

He was the first bishop of Ioka Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and remained an active worker until illlness prevented it.

Surviving are his widow, Ioka; five sons and five daughters, Mrs. Mary Merrill and Mrs. Christine Merrill, Vernal; Adelbert Angus, Draper; Elmer Angus, Blythe, California; Wilford Angus, Berry Creek, California; Ray Angus, Latuda, Tooele County; Mrs. Thelma Cook, Bluebell; Edna Angus, Sacramento, California;Mrs. Eva Percival, Ioka; Mrs. Eunice Remund, Duchesne; 53 grandchildren, one brother and one sister, George Angus, Provo and Mrs. Jane Banks, Salt Lake City.

Funeral services will be announced by the Dillman Mortuary.
