Upon accepting Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, she united with the Mt. Triumph Missionary Baptist Church, where she faithfully served until her health failed. She was past treasurer of the Mission and most recently the spiritual advisor of the Mission at Mt. Triumph Missionary Baptist Church. She was also the cook for the Head Start Program for 17 years. She was also a member of Fort Coffee Senior Citizens.
She married Elzie A. Rogers, who preceded her in death. To this union two daughters were born, Ester Lee Rogers Clayton and Elzaree Rogers Jordan. She later married Turner Smith, and to this union one son was born, Alvin Smith.
Mama Jennie, as she was known by all, loved her family deeply. It gave her much joy to be surrounded by her family and friends. She loved cooking for them and was known for her delicious sweet potato pies and homemade cakes.
She loved singing praises to the Lord and devoted a lifetime of singing with the Heaven Bound Travelers. The group singing took them to many nursing homes throughout the area, and whenever called upon to sing, she was always ready. She also sang with a group called the Starlight Prayer Band, originally the Brown Quartet. Mama Jennie will be remembered for her encouraging attitude and selfless acts of kindness to everyone she knew.
Preceding Mama Jennie in death is her parents; her husband, Turner Smith, one son, Alvin; one daughter, Elzaree Jordan; 11 brothers and sisters.
She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Ester Lee Clayton of Fort Coffee, Oklahoma; one brother, William Brown of Spiro, Oklahoma; 28 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and her beloved church family.
