Lars passed away peaceably on August 17th at the Robertsdale Healthcare Center where he had been under the care and supervision of a team of caregivers there for many months.

My brother was truly a very talented and special man. 2 years ago he had triple bypass surgery and then about a year later he contracted ALS. Throughout the entire 2 years, as his health greatly declined, he always had an upbeat and even joyful spirit about him, never complaining, just happy to see you.

I'll always remember how much he loved his family, especially our late mother, Joyce Britt-Weaver, his kids, Tamara, Lauren, and Jonathan, his brothers, Robbie and me, and his sister, Cheryl and 2 brothers, Miles and Luke, from our late Dad Harvey Elmore Britt and his 2nd family. From an early age, Lars knew our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and appreciated the knowledge that after this life was over, he would be with God in Heaven. He also loved Coach Paul 'Bear' Bryant and Alabama Football, all sports (for many years working in the Sports Dept. for the Mobile Press-Register) and was a past Mobile Chess Director. He was also the owner and operator of Koch Galleries, a fine arts staple business in Mobile, for nearly 40 years.

But more than all of this, I remember how much time he spent with me, 4 years his junior when we were growing up. Dad and Mom had gone separate ways and Lars (Larry, back then) was a great 'Big Brother'. From the time I was 4 or 5 for the next 10 or so formative years of my youth, he taught me to be 'the best I could be' and instilled a desire to learn and excel. He also taught me a great deal of patience as a virtue. Years later, he always had a playful and even childlike nature that could exhibit itself at any time. Lars is very much missed by me and countless others.
