Birthday Party - The morning of November 16, 1883, was ushered in bright, clear and cold, after the storm of the previous night, which had sent the snow whirling around the corners in eddying gusts, and then fled shrieking through the gathering gloom. The sun came out bright and clear, which gave a suspicion of warmth, but still all was cold and chilly at 10 o'clock, but not so in the pleasant house of William D. Curll. There all was bright and warm and joyous, the rooms filled with a happy company come to greet the father, grandfather, uncle and old-time friend and neighbor on the anniversary of his seventy-second birthday. William Duane Curll was born at the Paoli, Chester County, Pa., November 16, 1811. To have seen the joyous company of children and grandchildren, relatives and friends with their happy faces and pleasant greetings, would brighten up the dullest, dreariest November day that was ever out of doors. The presents, the baskets full of the good things of this life, and the haste, that apparently ravenous company made, to have those baskets filled with everything good to eat disappear from mortal gaze, was simply marvelous. After dinner, old times wee talked over among friends and neighbors-the children enjoying themselves meanwhile-until a late hour in the afternoon when the company dispersed, to be replaced by a jolly company of young folks in the evening, who enjoyed in harmless fun and amusement until a seasonable hour. The number of guests were 100. Thus passed a day to be remembered by the recipient for the expressions of love and good will shown by relatives and friends, and by the participants for the pleasant memories and general hilarity and good feeling engendered by the occasion.
