A wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a caring and selfless friend, he died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004, at 1:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 83, a native of New Roads and a resident of Baton Rouge. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Visiting at Niland's Funeral Home, New Roads, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, and 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Friday,. Feb. 27, 2004. Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Roads, at 10 a.m. Friday. Entombment in St. Mary's Cemetery. Survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Rita Langlois Monceret; four daughters, Cathy Gilbert, Charlotte Guerin, Darlene Harris and Lee Miller; two sisters, Ethel Chenevert and Dorothy "Dot" Rock; a sister-in-law, Audrey Monceret; eight grandchildren, Kathryn Verbois, Chad Debetez, John Guerin Jr., Kandi Guerin, Kim Guerin, Hans Ersrud, Jeni Miller and Landon Stringer; a great-grandson, Gage Andrew Guerin; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends, Frank Richard and Vidar Ersrud. He was preceded in death by his father, Felicien Monceret; mother, Marie Chenevert; a brother, Nolan Monceret; and a sister, Gertrude Monceret. Pallbearers will be John A. Gilbert, Larry Harris, John A. Guerin Jr., Chad Debetaz, Hans Ersrud, Ralph Rock, Frank Richard and Vilar Ersrud. Honorary pallbearer is John A. Guerin. The family is grateful for the special care given by Dr. Joseph M. Cefalu and the nurses and staff of Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. Leroy was a wonderful, giving friend to many people during his life. He will be dearly missed by his family and many who knew him.
