Died of consumption according to 1890 Veterans Schedules. Date of death from Widow's Pension.


Private, 1st Union NC Regiment, Co. L. Enlisted 1 Aug 1864, Newport, Carteret Co., NC - Mustered out with regiment on Jun 27, 1865 at New Bern, NC. Dark complexion, brown eyes, brown hair, 5'8". According to widow's pension contracted a cold which turned into consumption during war, returned from war with cough and spitting up blood up to one quart at a time. Used patent medicine which gave him some relief. Before enlistment he worked hard at manual labor and was a good hand. Upon his return from the war, could only do 1/3 the work and was feabile.-- According to his neighbor David B. Ambrose's statement in widows pension. David Amborse lived 3 miles away.
