Jesse William La Rue was born in 1847 in Kentucky. He was the child of Morgan John La Rue and Maria Castleman. He married Ludah Mae Higginson on 16 September 1879. They had three children, Jesse Mae La Rue who died in 1901, Susan La Rue who married Guy Griggs, and William Ivan La Rue who first married Linnie Leigh Gray. Jesse and Ludah farmed land on Wolf Island, Kentucky. Jesse left the family between 1900 and 1910 and died at the age of 94. He was living in the Sunshine Home in Memphis, Tennesse when he died.
