She was a woman of Christian faith and her family believes her purpose in life was to help others. If someone needed their hand held, or needed to be comforted, Maxine was there.
She was born to Edwin Neal Kirkendoll and Mary Alice (McGuire) Kirkendoll on January 2, 1938 in Los Angeles, California. The family relocated to Norman Oklahoma when Maxine was one, and she graduated from Norman High School. She then spent 25 years in Seminole raising her family before relocating back to Norman. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband (divorced) and father of her children Ernest Lee Melott, sister Dorothy June Dillard, brother Edwin “Jay“ Kirkendoll Jr; and a woman she loved like a daughter, Lynda Shafer. She is survived by her 2 sons: Ed (Debbie) Melott of Oklahoma City, and Mike (Teresa) Melott of Sanger Texas; 6 grandchildren: Daniel (Janessa) Melott, Brandon (Lindsey) Melott, Jon (Shane) Melott, Jason Melott, Ryan Melott, and Lane Melott; and 7 great-grandchildren: Aaron, Chloe, Abner, Cole, Connor, Claira, and Paisley. She had many friends, and she considered all of them as family. Maxine’s life was spent enjoying time with her family and friends. She had a love of gardening, baking, eating late night snacks while watching movies, and sleeping in when she could. She was a Nanny to many as she babysat and helped raise children. Her sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her. Services for Maxine will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, March 7, 2020 at The John Ireland Funeral Home in Moore, Ok.
