James B. Burgess, aged 63 years, a well known colored resident, died Friday, at noon in the home of his sister, Mrs. Martha Sherrow, Payne Place. His death was due to complications. He was born in Canonsburg and had spent all of his life here.
He had been a member of the Payne A. M. E. church for over 40 years and took an active interest in the affairs of the congregation, having served as trustee, steward, and member of the choir. He leaves a son, William Burgess; two sisters, Mrs. Martha Sherrow and Mrs. Alice Smith; two brothers, William Burgess and Jerry Burgess, and six step-children.
Funeral services will be held in the Payne church Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. W. S. Becks. The interment will be in the Payne cemetery.
