Levi Bishop
Levi Bishop was born in Clark County, Indiana, January 16, 1843 and died May 19, 1924, at the advanced age of 81 years, 4 months and 3 days.
When the Civil War broke out he was in Missouri. The country’s need of soldiers appealed to him, and he volunteered for service in the 18th Regiment of Missouri. He served from July 27, 1862 until July 8, 1865, when he was honorably discharged.
Before entering the service he was married to Elsie Ann Hullen. While bearing the colors, his young wife died leaving an infant daughter now, Mrs. A.D. Hamilto of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
July 12, 1866 he chose a second wife, Sarah Jane Ray of Indiana to whom were born 8 children, 4 sons and 4 daughters. The sons are John of West Liberty, Missouri, Frank of Plano, Iowa, Emzy of Anthony, Kansas and Joseph of Cheyenne, Wyoming. The daughters are Mrs. Geo. Roseberry, Seymour, Iowa, Mrs. C.L. Turnmire of Centerville, Iowa, Mrs. Thomas Mahoney, Stahl, Missouri and Mrs. Willis Mulnix, Udell, Iowa.
Since the death of his wife which occurred January 20, 1921, the deceased made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Turnmire near Jerome and at whose home he passed to his reward.
About six weeks ago Mr. Bishop was taken ill. On account of his age could not regain strength but peacefully breathed his last on the above date.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Christian Church in Seymour by the pastor G. A. Jeffrey. Interment was in Southlawn.

Levi Bishop and Sarah Jane Ray were married July 12, 1866 at Rush, Indiana. The family started in Indiana, then moved to Missouri. They lived a number of years in Putnam County, Missouri. Their later years possibly were in Wayne County, Iowa since they are both buried in the Southlawn Cemetery at Seymour.
They had eleven children:
