He was born in Zurich Switzerland, June 9, 1844, and came with his mother to America in 1852, his father having preceded them. They landed at New Orleans, the ocean journey having required 52 days. He settled in the neighborhood where Nameoki, Illinois (Madison Co.) is now located and afterwards farmed in the Greene County Rubicon Township vicinity for a number of years. He was married to Mary Ella Quick-Braden-Beckey.
They had the following children: William Ulrich, b. 14 May 1897 d. 02 Feb 1969, Jacob Paul b. 17 Oct 1899 d. 31 Dec 1960 and George Homer b.12 Oct 1902 d. 11 Aug 1966.
