Bryant W. Armstrong Dies;
Headed City Building Firm

Bryant W. Armstrong, 71, of 1520 Drewry Lane, died Monday night at his home. He headed the B. W. Armstrong and Son building firm, and was foreman for the construction of the present St. Bernard's Catholic Church on Atwood Avenue. Born at Richland Center in 1899, Mr. Armstrong had been a Madison resident most of his life. On Aug. 15, 1922, he was married to Elizabeth Simon. He was a member of St. Bernard's Church. Surviving are his wife; a son, Bryant M. Armstrong, 1107 Nishishin Trail; four daughters, Mrs. Carrol Saxe, 5606 Dorsett Dr.; Mrs. Donald Uselmann, 1417 Morrison St.; Mrs. Floyd Moran, Waunakee, and Mrs. Edward Punswick, Houston, Texas; his foster father, J. H. Schneider, and a foster brother, Arnold Schneider, both of 721 Pawling St. here; 17 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Friends may call at the Gunderson Funeral Home, 5203 Monona Dr., on Wednesday from 4 to 9 p.m. The rosary will be recited there Wednesday night at 8. The family said memorials may be made to the American Cancer Fund or the American Heart Fund. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the church with Msgr. T. F. Thome, P.A., officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.

March 25, 2013: Per contact from an Armstrong family researcher, Bryant Armstrong's biological parents were Levi Armstrong and Ida (Dix) Armstrong (Levi's 2nd wife). His father, Levi Armstrong was killed in 1907 by a locomotive train in Janesville, Wisconsin. Ida (aka Clara) remarried and her new husband (Richard Murphy) did not want Bryant or his two brothers, Joseph Armstrong
and Levi Armstrong, Jr. All three boys were sent to an orphanage in Sparta, Wisconsin.
