Myron was born on the 17th of October, 1942 to Reinhold and Philipena (Pfeifer) Wiedrich at the Hazen Memorial Hospital. Myron was the 11th of 15 children.
Myron grew up on the Wiedrich farm in a small two room home 13 miles north of Hazen. Myron attended the rural farm school of Krem, located north/east of the farm off Highway 1806. Myron worked on the Wiedrich farm and for local farmers as a young man. Myron loved growing up on the farm with his many siblings and all the farm animals including a tame whitetail deer. The exception was his mother’s ill-tempered rooster (who would chase and torment the kids around the farm yard on a daily basis) and their dog Rusty who happened to bite him on his posterior after a little encouragement from his loving brother Clarence. Myron stated that the rooster happened to disappear one day and was never seen from again, much to his mother’s chagrin. Mother Wiedrich conducted a long and intensive investigation into the disappearance of her beloved rooster and it was widely believed that Clarence and Arville were behind the heinous crime, but were never convicted!
The Wiedrich family sold the family farm in 1959 and moved to Hazen. Myron continued his education and graduated from Hazen High School. Myron said that even though he missed the farm, he did like having electricity, running water, and an indoor toilet!
On the 13th of December (Friday the 13th!), 1963, Myron married the love of his life, Helen Faye Johnson. Myron and Helen started their young lives together by moving to Bismarck. Several years later Myron moved his wife and son back to Hazen, where they welcomed their second and third sons.
Myron purchased a few acres of land on the south side of Hazen, where he built the family home, along with a large horse barn and indoor arena. Myron and his family raised, trained, and showed Quarter horses in the 70’s and 80’s.
Myron worked at the UPA power plant by Stanton for 13 years. Myron left UPA to do construction work as an electrician on all the plants in the Hazen/Beulah/Center area. After the construction work slowed down, Myron worked as a long haul truck driver, concrete truck operator, batch plant manager, restaurant manager and finally for the city of Hazen, until he retired in 2004. After retiring, Myron began driving school bus for the Hazen Public School system.
Myron was a diehard Hazen Bison fan, to say the least. Myron and his buddies, Kenny Miller, Donny Huber and Dale Weisz (AKA the four horsemen), went to every Hazen football game, basketball game, volleyball game and track meet. Home or away, they went to cheer on their beloved Bison and complain about the officiating! Myron went to all of his grandchildren’s sporting and school events from baseball, football, hockey, volleyball, dance and even speech meets, to cheer them on. Myron was also an avid Minnesota Viking fan until the end. However, we won’t hold that against him!
Myron also really loved to eat! Anytime Myron went anywhere, you could plan on stopping and eating several times. It’s pretty safe to say Myron liked all food, except for chicken. Myron’s hatred for chicken was known far and wide. I believe it started with that ill-tempered rooster from his youth.
Above all, Myron loved his family and his little dogs Annie and the late Toby. Myron was always willing to lend a helping hand or just drink coffee and BS with anyone and everyone! Myron worked hard his entire life and didn’t have a lazy bone in his body - and he was proud of that fact.
